The multimedia initiative began as a texting campaign launched during the livestream of Alicia Keys’ fourth studio album, The Element of Freedom. In the middle of her album launch, Alicia Invited invited fans to text the word ALIVE to enter a social media contest, where she hand picked 5 winners to travel with her to Africa.
